Synopsis

Lara Architects was engaged to design an upgraded, DDA-compliant main entry to the building.

In conjunction with internal upgrades—comprising a modernised ground floor lobby, new end-of-trip facilities, and refurbished interlevel lobbies—the external entry was identified as a key component in delivering a cohesive repositioning of the property.

Our analysis of the existing main entry highlighted the need for a complete redesign—not only to integrate the new DDA-compliant lift, but also to align with the design language and quality of the internal works by KHID.

Adopting a holistic approach, the design ensures a seamless connection between internal and external spaces. The result is a unified and contemporary experience that enhances both accessibility and user appeal, reaffirming the building’s identity and presence.

The front canopies are consolidated into a single, expansive form, creating a unified entry statement and stronger street presence. All planters are upgraded with a contrasting, contemporary stone finish, adding a refined and modern edge to the landscape. A solid stone bench is integrated into the design, offering a welcoming public amenity that connects the building to the public realm and supports passive surveillance.

The planting is refreshed with lush, resilient species for long-term durability and year-round vibrancy. Curved forms and timber finishes respond to the architectural language of the new Anzac Station, while matching the timber used in the main entry lobby to ensure a seamless indoor–outdoor transition. Finally, the canopy’s sharp edge and new lift enclosure are detailed to match the “22” signage in the lobby, tying the exterior and interior together with a consistent and contemporary material palette.
